Public Records: Now You See Them, Now You Don't
Virtually every MLS in the
country provides integrated Property Tax data in their MLS systems.
Virtually every survey of MLS subscribers’ needs and wants rates the
value of the Property Tax records function as among the most important
services provided by their MLS. Very few MLS organizations fully
understand that ongoing access to this extremely important ownership
and characteristic data hangs by a thread and there are forces at work
every day trying to cut that thread. In a time when the concept of a
parcel-based information repository is contemplated by the NAR, it is
timely to consider the challenges and need for vigilance and positive
action that are necessary to make this a reality.
Peter Shuttleworth (EVP, Metro
MLS) will lead an examination of this very critical issue. Joining
Peter will be panelists with extraordinary first hand knowledge of why
the idea of Public Records remaining “public” is a never-ending
battle.
